How Social Media is Changing Couture Fashion

The rise of social media and instant sharing of fashion shows has forced designers to change how they plan and design collections: no longer for the human eye, but for the camera flash and social media appeal.

Guests of Maison Margiela’s 2018 Spring Couture show were asked to partake in this fractured experience by photographing the clothes specifically with a camera flash turned on. The show itself explored the discrepancy between what we experience in real life vs. what we see on screens by comparing an image of the clothing as viewed by the human eye and an image altered by a camera flash.
